Stories from the Unconscious: On the Path Towards Wholeness
Wisconsin
Community Bank 8240 Mineral Point Road, Madison, WI
The much maligned inferior function is well known for its ability to grab us by the scruff of our stressed out necks and batter us into a more submissive and humble place.
Its other roles have had less press, yet probably deserve as much if not more attention, for they hold the promise of wholeness and of completion.
We will explore the multiple roles of the inferior function in psychic development, as described by Jungian analyst M.L. von Franz: compensation, illusion, illumination, creative genius and perhaps even a glimpse of bliss.
Using evocative imagery and compelling stories uncovered during the years of interviewing for The Magnificent 16, the deeper, layers of Jungian psychology once more come to life. You will walk away with a greater understanding of the journey towards wholeness and insight into the puzzling, quirky parts of your personality.
"Enlightenment doesn't occur from visualizing images of light,
but from bringing our darkness into the light." C. G. Jung

The Perception of Immorality and Other Evils: The Problem of Type in Encountering the Other
Wisconsin Community Bank 8240 Mineral Point Road, Madison, WI
We bring type into the work place as a solution. We celebrate our differences. We suggest that they can be leveraged to create better teams and find innovative solutions for a better world.
Yet Jung came to typology following an intense pondering of a rift between himself and his mentor, Freud. His book Psychological Types first presents type as a problem–in classical thought, in poetry, in aesthetics, in philosophy–before describing the typology itself. For over 300 pages, type is a problem.
In the pursuit of Myers' dream of "avoiding destructive conflicts", we first must recognize their existence and what role, if any, type plays.
This class will first explore type as a problem in personal, organizational and social development-using real world events to understand the ensuing challenges of the diversity it imposes on our day to day life. It will then propose models that map out the territory of the challenges, both for individuals and groups. Finally, this workshop will offer real - but difficult - solutions that bridge the gaps, lay foundation for the personal journey towards the Self and suggest benchmarks for social change.
The theoretical aspects of the workshop:
- An overview of the psyche's development and its overall goal, according to Jung;
- The abc's of the dance of opposites;
- The role of incompatibility, paradox, identity and disillusionment in the journey towards wholeness and reconciliation;
The practical aspects of the workshop:
- Four steps towards healthy relationships and the integration of differences;
- One vital skill for managing personality differences;
- Two insightful stories to practice the four steps and the one vital skill.
With insightful new multimedia, Danielle Poirier will lead an entertaining, practical and insightful day of discovery into the personal and collective challenges of living with differences.
